GULF SHORES, Ala. — A Birmingham-area man has died after being among a half-dozen people struck by lightning on the Alabama coast.

A city spokesman in Gulf Shores confirms that 24-year-old Taylor Harsh of Mountain Brook was among six people affected by lightning that struck Saturday afternoon.

Harsh and another person were taken to hospitals, and Harsh died early Monday at a hospital in Birmingham.

Gulf Shores Fire Chief Bo Smith tells al.com that the six were on the beach when they were affected by a bolt of lightning.
