SPARTANBURG, S.C. — A South Carolina coroner has identified a man whose decomposed body was found under a four-wheeler in a creek bed.

Spartanburg County Coroner Rusty Clevenger said his office was called on Tuesday to the spot where the body was found.

Clevenger said after two days of attempts, his office identified the man on Thursday as 52-year-old Ronald Michael Caporino of Pelzer. The coroner said identification was made through dental and medical records.

According to Clevenger, Caporino was reported missing to Greenville County officials this month after he was last seen on July 27. An autopsy was performed Thursday, and while Clevenger said more tests are required, preliminary evidence points to what he termed “a terrible accident.”
