Area unemployment rates take a dip

Unemployment is down significantly from the same time last year.

Johnson County’s unemployment rate in July was 2.9 percent, down from the same time last year when the rate was 3.6 percent, according to a report by the Indiana Department of Workforce Development.

The same was true statewide. Indiana’s unemployment rate of 3.1 percent in July fell from last year’s rate of 4.5 percent, according a news release.

The unemployment rate increased slightly from June both statewide and locally. In Johnson County, the rate last month was 2.6 percent. Statewide, it was 3 percent.

But the unemployment rate remains below the national average of 4.3 percent, the release said.
