Volleyball

Grizzly Cubs edge New Pal

Alyvia Sundheimer had 16 kills and Brooke Phillips added seven kills while dishing out 36 assists as Franklin maintained its perfect record with a five-set win against New Palestine on Saturday.

Isabell Mahin and Kabria Chapman finished with nine and eight kills, respectively, for the Grizzly Cubs (3-0), who dropped the third and fourth sets but rallied to win the fifth, 15-11.

Trojans suffer first loss

Center Grove lost in four sets against Zionsville on Saturday, 18-25, 25-16, 25-22, 25-19. Ellen LeMasters had 19 kills for the Trojans (3-1), while Ashley Eck led the way defensively with 14 digs.

Lancers compete at Henryville

Edinburgh won one of four matches in tournament play at Henryville on Saturday. The Lancers (3-4) defeated the host team but lost to Hauser, North Harrison and Paoli.

Rebels sweep Chatard

Roncalli defeated Bishop Chatard on Saturday, 25-15, 25-14, 26-24. Grace Irmer and 25 digs and an ace, and Taylor Kehoe contributed five aces and seven digs.

Boys soccer

Grizzly Cubs nip Golden Bears

Owen Atkison scored three goals to help Franklin eke out a 6-5 triumph over Shelbyville on Saturday. Owen Mahin, Joe Nerding and Garrett Snyder each added a goal for the Grizzly Cubs (1-1).

Center Grove splits at home

In Saturday’s Trojan Classic, Center Grove was a 2-1 winner over Elkhart Memorial before being defeated by Columbus East, 3-2.

Girls soccer

Rebels blank Carroll

Sophia Dietz scored the lone goal of the match and Abby Genier made it hold up in Roncalli’s 1-0 win over Fort Wayne Carroll on Saturday.

Boys tennis

Trojans take two of three

Center Grove hosted a tournament on Saturday and won two of its three matches. The Trojans pulled out 3-2 victories over Terre Haute South and Perry Meridian but lost to Brownsburg.

The Trojans’ No. 1 doubles team of Eli Lawyer-Smith and Mitch Runkle won all three of its matches on the day.

Braves finish third

Indian Creek was third out of eight teams at the Warren Central Invitational on Saturday. Markus Lange and Jake Mitchell each went 2-1 for the Braves in singles play.

The doubles teams, Kyle Lime and Cody Hart at No. 1 and Hunter Ankney and Dustin Hamblen at No. 2, each won two of three matches as well.

Girls golf

Rebels, Trojans compete at Smock

The Roncalli Invitational took place on Saturday, with the host Rebels finishing eighth and Center Grove 10th in the 17-team event.

Sophie Egold had an 87 for Roncalli, while Annie Sullivan and Nicole Clifford each shot 88. Lucy Young and Meg Fosnot led the Trojans at 85 and 89, respectively.

Lancers finish ninth

Edinburgh placed ninth in a 12-team field at the Connersville Invite on Saturday. Vanessa McManaway paced the Lancers with a round of 104.

Cross country

Indian Creek boys win at GCA

Nate Decker and Jace Russell were the top twosome overall, leading the Indian Creek boys to victory in the Hokum Karem meet at Greenwood Christian on Saturday.

The Braves were second in the girls meet, led by a runner-up finish from Shae Biddle and Marissa Smith.

Franklin girls eighth

The Franklin girls were eighth at the Plainfield Relays on Saturday. Lilly Lacy and Emma Treibic were the Grizzly Cubs’ top pairing with a 12th-place showing.
