CHARLESTON, W.Va. — An anti-racism rally has been held at West Virginia’s Capitol.

The group Call to Action for Racial Equality helped organize the event Sunday evening in Charleston.

C.A.R.E. executive director Gabrielle Chapman tells WSAZ-TV that the event had been in the works for months.

Initially scheduled to be held at West Virginia State University in Institute, the rally was moved to the Capitol after search other organizations reached out following the recent deadly protest in Charlottesville, Virginia.

In Charlottesville a week ago, a car plowed into counter-demonstrators at a white nationalist rally, killing a woman and injuring at least 20 others.
