Dining in the dark

A unique fundraiser next week will highlight the difficulties of people with disabilities and older adults while raising money for an organization that serves them.

The annual Johnson County Senior Services Dining in the Dark program will start at 5 p.m. Aug. 24 at Compass Park Community Center at the Indiana Masonic Home.

A three-course meal will be served completely in pitch-black darkness. Diners will get in touch with all senses as they savor the aromas and taste of the meal, which will be complete with music and conversation.

Cost is $63 per individual, and $500 to $1,000 for a reserved table for eight. The keynote speaker will be Richard Brendan, a local broadcaster.

The event includes a silent and live auction and is intended for guests 15 years old and older.

Funds raised at the program will also help provide many of the free essential services that enhance the lives of Johnson County seniors.

Johnson County Senior Services also maintains a food pantry and delivers food to seniors in need and at risk, as well as providing free durable medical equipment, information and assistance.
