Letter: People serving others not properly rewarded

To the editor:

Thank you to Morton Marcus for his article on July 27 (“Have you considered the pay for your career field?”) regarding those among us who choose careers of service to their fellow human beings.

I am grateful that there are people who are still willing to choose a career where there is more to be considered than the monetary value. The sad part is that their contribution to serving others is not recognized or rewarded as it should be, even though that is not what they are expecting.

It doesn’t speak well of our values when we are willing to pay enormous amounts of money to those who are in the sports world. I realize that is the way they make their living but it seems to me the discrepancy in wages is very unfair.

Thanks again to Mr. Marcus. He stated it very well.
