Franklin teacher wins national award

A Franklin Community High School teacher who teaches fashion and textile and nutrition and wellness has won an award.

Barbara Torrey, family and consumer science teacher, won the Spirit of Advising Award at the Family, Career and Community Leaders of America National Leadership Conference.

The national conference brings students and advisers together from FCCLA chapters all across the country. The organization concentrates on skills students would learn in family and consumer science classes.

Spirit of Advising award winners are nominated at the state level. Advisers are chosen for the award based on the work they do for their students.

Torrey has taught family and consumer classes for 21 years, with the last decade spent at Franklin Community High School.
