Franklin students go to national conference

Four Franklin Community High School students went to the annual Family, Career and Community Leaders of American conference in Nashville, Tennessee this summer.

The conference provided Franklin’s FCCLA students opportunities for listening to speakers, attending learning sessions, competing on the national level and networking with other leaders.

Annika Cooper, Taylor Walker, Sarah Chambers and Savannah Kimbrell participated in one of 30 Family and Consumer Sciences related competitive events at the conference.

Cooper and Walker won national gold medals in Chapter Service Project Display, Kimbrell won a national gold medal in Entrepreneurship, and Sarah Chambers won a national gold medal in Advocacy.

Roncalli announces new teachers, staff

Roncalli High School on the southside has 14 new teachers and staff.

Lilly Endowment accepts scholarship applications

The Johnson County Community Foundation will award three Lilly Endowment Community Scholarships in 2018.

The number of Lilly Endowment Scholarships available to each county in Indiana is based on population. Most recently, Johnson County has awarded two Lilly scholarships.

Recipients receive full tuition to the Indiana college or university of their choice and a $900 yearly stipend for books and equipment.

Online applications are due Aug. 25.

Winners are selected based on volunteer community service, academic preparation and performance, leadership and good character.
