PEARL RIVER, La. — Officials say a man was burned after he tried to extinguish a fire at his Louisiana home.

Nola.com/The Times-Picayune reports that firefighters responded to the blaze around 9 a.m. Thursday and found smoke and flames coming from a Pearl River home.

Officials say the homeowner woke up to find his bedroom on fire and attempted to extinguish the flames by removing burning debris. The unidentified homeowner was burned in the process and taken to the hospital for evaluation and treatment.

Fire District 11 said in a news release that firefighters isolated the blaze to the bedroom.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
