Trojans get past Rebels

Junior Lucy Young’s 39 led Center Grove past Roncalli on Wednesday 165-171.

The match, played at Dye’s Walk Country Club, included 41s from Trojans players Halle Booher and Meg Fosnot. Also for Center Grove, Hope Davis and Lauren Pagel each shot 44, while Maddie Heineman had a 47.

Medalist honors went to Roncalli’s Sophia Egold with a 37.

Drake leads Franklin victory

Taylor Drake shot a 39 to lead Franklin past Southport 172-206 in a match played at Southern Dunes Golf Course in Indianapolis.

Next for the Grizzly Cubs was Avery Auton with a 43, while Olivia Parramore carded a 44 and Ellie Beavins a 46. Other Franklin scores were Carly Woodward’s 47 and Alexa Wilkison’s 51.

Artesians down Woodmen

Greenwood came up short against host Martinsville, losing to the 19th-ranked Artesians 181-215.

Low scorers for the Woodmen were Maecee Terhune and Laila Stein with 52s, a 55 from Maeci West and both Taylor Watson and Christina Challman with a 56.

Football favored to win HCAC

The Franklin College football team has been chosen as the favorite to win the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) after being named preseason favorites by the league Wednesday afternoon.

Head coach Mike Leonard’s squad finished 8-2 last year and 7-1 in HCAC play to share the league crown with Rose-Hulman.

The Grizzlies picked up seven of nine first-place votes in this year’s poll, garnering 88 points. Rose-Hulman was picked to finish second after earning 80 points and one first-place vote.
