NEW YORK — Police in New York City are searching for a man who they say tried to sexually assault a woman as she entered her car.

The Daily News reports (http://nydn.us/2uzmcEz ) the attack happened around 8 a.m. Sunday in the Bronx. Police say a man approached a 36-year-old woman from behind as she got into her car. Investigators say the suspect pushed her into her car and punched her in the face as he attempted to sexually assault her.

Police say the woman defended herself before the suspect fled the scene. Authorities say the victim suffered bruising to her face but wasn’t seriously injured.

An investigation is continuing.
