MORRIS PLAINS, N.J. — Authorities have released the names of a man and woman who were killed in an apparent murder-suicide at a New Jersey apartment complex.

Morris County prosecutors say 28-year-old Laurel Chasmar was found shot to death early Saturday at The Highlands complex in Morris Plains, where she lived.

Hassan Shahid was found dead a short time later at a nearby site in Morris Township. Prosecutors say the 32-year-old Jersey City man died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Prosecutors have not released further details about the two people killed or the investigation.

Morris Plains Mayor Frank Deutzler told the Daily Record that Shahid and Chasmar were co-workers at a pharmaceutical firm who used to date. Deutzler said Chasmar had complained to police that he had been harassing her.
