AVONDALE, La. — A Louisiana man accused of stabbing his girlfriend’s dogs during an argument has been arrested.

Nola.com/The Times-Picayune reports 23-year-old Marcel Evans was arrested Friday and charged with several offenses, including two counts of aggravated cruelty to animals.

Evans’ 29-year-old girlfriend told investigators with the Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office that they were arguing when Evans pulled out a kitchen knife on July 18. According to a report, Evans then opened a kennel and stabbed his girlfriend’s two pit bulls several times.

Authorities say when the girlfriend tried to leave the bedroom, he shoved her back toward the room. He later left the house before deputies arrived.

Investigators determined the dogs suffered several stab wounds to their neck and backs, but they survived.

It’s unclear if Evans has a lawyer.
