EUEGENE, Ore. — A man has been arrested and charged with attempted murder in connection with the stabbing of another man in downtown Eugene.

The Eugene Register-Guard reports ( http://bit.ly/2vexj7K ) that Gilbert Gene Zimmerman, 36, was booked into the Lane County Jail about 1:10 a.m. Sunday.

Police say the stabbing happened around 6:15 p.m. Friday after a dispute between two men left one of them with a single stab wound in the abdomen. The assailant had fled before police arrived.

The wounded man was taken to PeaceHealth ?Sacred Heart Medical Center at RiverBend in Springfield for treatment.
