Jay Franklin Barnett, age 89, of Indianapolis, passed away at his home on Wednesday afternoon, August 2, 2017.

Jay was born on April 21, 1928 in Decatur, Indiana to Carl Oliver Barnett and Sadie Jane (Bushman) Barnett.

Jay proudly served his country in the United States Marie Corps in the Korean War in 1951-52.

On April 21, 1953, he married Dorothy (Cope) Barnett.

She preceded him in death in 2000.

Jay retired from Teamsters No. 135 as a truck driver with Roadway with over 36 years of service.

He was commonly referred to as Pop and will be greatly missed by his family and friends.

Survivors include his two sons, Scott Barnett (Catherine) of Indianapolis and Bruce Barnett of Indianapolis, one daughter, Beth Lewis (Walter) of Muscle Shoals, Alabama; 11 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; 11 great-great-grandchildren; and one sister, Alice I. Stachelek of Sacramento, California.

Jay was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, one daughter, Kimberly and one brother, Carl A. Barnett.

Funeral services for Jay will be held on Wednesday August 9, 2017 at 2 p.m. at Wilson St Pierre Funeral Service and Crematory, Greenwood Chapel. A visitation will be held at the funeral home from noon until the time of service. Burial and military honors will immediately follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Greenwood.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial contributions be made to The Marine Corps Veterans Association, 2245 Park Towne Circle, Sacramento, CA 95825; or the American Heart Association, 6500 Technology Center Drive, No 100, Zionsville, IN 46077.
