THOMPSON AND MESERVE’S PURCHASE, N.H. — Fish and Game Conservation Officers say a cellphone signal helped them pinpoint the location of lost hikers in northern New Hampshire.
Officials say three adults and two children were descending the Jewell Trail when they took a wrong turn and ended up off the trail during heavy rain Saturday.
The group eventually dialed 911 but officials were unable to locate them. On a second call, officers determined that the group was at Jefferson Brook, about a quarter-mile from Jefferson Notch Road, in Thompson and Meserve’s Purchase.
Officials say an adult and two minors hiked to the road, while officers hiked in to help two adults who were too exhausted to continue. They say the hikers from New York and New Jersey were cold, wet, and tired, but otherwise uninjured.
