ATLANTIC CITY, N.J. — The Coast Guard is searching for a swimmer who disappeared near Atlantic City’s Steel Pier.

The Coast Guard says police said a bystander saw a man enter the water around 10 p.m. Tuesday, but he did not return.

A helicopter and response boat are conducting the search.

The search comes days after the body of a Slovakian woman who disappeared while swimming at the New Jersey shore was recovered in Toms River late Sunday.

She was swept away while swimming with a male companion in rough surf off Point Pleasant Beach.
