Chase speeds exceed 100 mph; man hurt

A motorcyclist was taken to the hospital after he crashed into Greenwood’s newest roundabout early Tuesday morning following a police chase that exceeded 100 mph.

Joshua Jones, 27, of Morgantown, was on a motorcycle going west on Smith Valley Road near Woodman Boulevard about 2 a.m. when an officer in the parking lot of Southwest Elementary clocked him going 92 mph in the 30 mph zone, a Greenwood Police Department report said.

The officer pursued Jones west on Smith Valley Road to the Yorktown Road intersection, where construction on a roundabout had finished last week. As Jones approached the intersection, he lost control of the motorcycle and crashed into the east side of the roundabout.

Just prior to the crash, officers following Jones were driving about 125 mph, the report said.

Jones was take to Indiana University Health Methodist Hospital for treatment. He was in stable condition as of Tuesday afternoon, but was still being evaluated, a hospital spokesperson said.

The incident remains under investigation.
