Stolen truck stuck in mud after burglary

A truck likely used in the burglary of a Franklin home and garage was found stuck in a ditch behind the property this week, and the evidence showed that another vehicle had come to the area in an attempt to pull the truck out, a Franklin police report said.

The truck had been stolen from the Southport area last week, Franklin Police Chief Tim O’Sullivan said.

Police were called on Wednesday afternoon when a man who came to check on the home in the 1100 block of Graham Street found that the windows were broken, a door was barricaded and items were out of place, O’Sullivan said.

The man checked the home himself, and called police after he discovered the truck in the field, O’Sullivan said. The man never saw the suspects.

Tools scattered around the truck had been stolen from the home’s garage and a safe was found in the mud, the report said.

Police are investigating.
