Unemployment rate under 3 percent

Johnson County’s unemployment rate is down significantly from last year.

The June rate was 2.6 percent, a decrease from the June 2016 rate of 3.8 percent, according to a monthly report from the Indiana Department of Workforce Development.

The unemployment rate is up from May, when the rate was at 2.4 percent, the report said.

The number of people employed in Johnson County increased by nearly 2,000 during the one-year period. The amount of people unemployed decreased by about 900, the report said.

Johnson County’s rates mirrored that of other central Indiana counties.

The unemployment rate also dropped for Indiana and the U.S. overall, the report said.
