Police: 2 arrested in storage unit burglary

Two local residents were arrested on charges of burglary and theft after they were caught by Columbus police officers inside a storage unit.

Jeremiah W. Clark, 31, of Franklin, and Cheryl L. Bailey, 30, of Edinburgh, were arrested on burglary and theft charges after the theft was reported Wednesday morning at a Columbus storage unit. Police received a report of a suspicious person with a bag walking around the business, said Lt. Matt Harris, Columbus Police Department spokesman.

Officers found an unattended vehicle in the area and saw a person with a flashlight inside the property, Harris said. Officers also found a large hole had been cut in the chain-link perimeter fence and noted a security camera had been moved, Harris said. They also heard people talking inside a storage unit, he said.

After some time, the storage unit door opened and Clark and Bailey walked out, police said.
