Woman run over by own SUV rolling backward

A Johnson County woman was taken to the hospital after possibly being run over by her vehicle after she parked on a sloping driveway.

Janetta Merimon, 38, had returned to her home west of Prince’s Lakes just after 1 p.m. Tuesday and stepped out of her sport-utility vehicle, when the vehicle began rolling backward down her sloped driveway, a Johnson County Sheriff’s Office report said.

She got caught up in the open vehicle door and fell to the ground, and said she may have been run over by the vehicle, the report said.

The vehicle continued down the driveway and crossed to the other side of the road, hitting a fence. The gear shift selector, which Merimon said had been having problems, had been left between park and reverse, the report said.

Merimon was taken to Johnson Memorial Hospital for treatment after complaining of pain to her shoulder and upper arm, the report said. Her condition was not available on Wednesday afternoon.
