Vehicles broken into in Franklin neighborhood

Police found multiple items stolen from vehicles parked at a Franklin neighborhood, but the suspects in the thefts fled.

Residents of at least seven homes in the Traditions Townhomes complex, located near King Street and Eastview Drive, reported items had been stolen from their vehicles Monday night and early Tuesday morning.

The items stolen include golf clubs, a GPS device, a phone charger, video games, a wallet, speakers, a sweatshirt and an air tank, a report said.

Police recovered several of those items when an officer spotted a suspicious vehicle in the neighborhood early Tuesday morning.

The officer turned down a street and saw a vehicle turn around and drive away. He followed the vehicle and was stopped by a resident who said two men from that vehicle got out and tried to break into several vehicles, according to the Franklin Police Department report.

The officer found the vehicle a short time later and found it was empty with the keys inside it. Inside the vehicle, he saw an air tank that matched the description of the one stolen earlier in the morning and speakers that also were taken, a report said.

Police are investigating.
