Shot accidently fired inside Greenwood apartment

No one was hurt when a man accidentally fired a homemade rifle inside his Greenwood apartment.

Police were called to the 900 block of Kings Mill Road in Polo Run Apartments in Greenwood at 9 p.m. Saturday on a report of a gun shot.

The resident told police he picked up the rifle by its sling and one of the attachments broke, causing it to fall to the floor and shoot a round into the ceiling, according to the Greenwood Police Department report.

No one was home in the apartment above him at the time, the report said.

Police checked the apartment upstairs and did not find a bullet. They suspect the bullet is lodged in the concrete between the floors, the report said.
