More than $51,000 worth of equipment used to fix railroad tracks was taken from Edinburgh.
The theft happened on July 4 from a railroad crossing where crews are working to upgrade the Louisville and Indiana Railroad Co. line. Several box trucks and trailers parked at the crossing were broken into, and multiple tools and pieces of equipment were stolen, according to a news release from Crime Stoppers.
The stolen equipment belonged to contractors working on the line and includes eight Husqvarna rail saws, a metal tube that looks much like a surveying tool, 12 batteries, two rail drills and a red Craftsmen toolbox. Some of the items may be marked with the name R. J. Corman, or something similar, which is the name of the contractor, the release said.
Anyone with information about the theft is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 317-262-8477. If the tip leads to an arrest, the caller can receive up to a $1,000 reward.
