Fair teaches kids literacy, agriculture

Your youngster can get a taste of agriculture and literacy lessons at a program at the Johnson County 4-H and Agricultural Fair.

Read, Taste, Touch will be offered several times during the fair.

» When and where is the event?

Read, Taste, Touch Program will be taking place during the Johnson County Fair at 10 a.m. Monday, July 17 to Friday, July 21. The program will be at Heritage Hall.

» Who can attend?

The program is targeted to children ages 5 to 7, but any age is welcome.

» How many people are you expecting?

We are limited to 30 children per day and still have a few spots open.

» What events are planned?

RT2 is designed to promote literacy, nutrition, and agriculture to young children. Each day at the fair, the children will read a book featuring agriculture and nutrition, create a fun craft, and sample a snack. They will then visit the day’s featured animal on the fairgrounds with barn tours.

» How did you get the idea for the event?

Research shows a strong relationship between parent/preschooler reading and language and literacy achievement. The Hendricks County health and human sciences.
