Vandals struck a historic downtown Greenwood building in the early morning hours of July 4, spray painting crude messages on its walls.
Police are now investigating who vandalized Polk Place, a former cannery that is part of Greenwood’s historic Old Town district, Greenwood Police Department spokesperson Kortney Burrello said.
The vandalism was caught on surveillance cameras at the former cannery at 435 E. Main St. The building had been vacant for many years prior to being purchased by the Greenwood-based real estate agency Randy Faulkner and Associates. Polk Place is now home to the Cornerstone Autism Center and other offices.
A police report wasn’t filed until Thursday morning, Burrello said. The police department encourages businesses that are victims of crimes to make prompt reports so that officers can watch for further vandalism in the area, she said.
