Daily Journal staff reports

A Greenwood man died earlier this week from injuries sustained when he crashed during a midget-car race at the Illinois State Fairgrounds.

Paul Graybrook, 60, was running in the Speed2 Illinois Midget Racing Association/Midwest Thunder midget race Monday night when his car flipped over the front straightaway wall on the second lap, according to the State Journal-Register in Springfield, Illinois.

Preliminary autopsy results indicated that Graybrook’s death was caused by multiple blunt force traumatic injuries. The crash occurred around 9 p.m., and Graybrook was pronounced dead at 5:56 a.m. Tuesday.

The race was part of the inaugural Adam Lopez Illinois Midget Nationals event, which was run on a quarter-mile dirt track at the fairgrounds’ multi-purpose arena.
