Franklin duo helps runner-up

The Indiana Flight fifth-grade girls basketball team recently completed its season with a 40-1 overall record after finishing second at the AAU Fifth Grade Division I National Championships in Mason, Ohio, this past weekend.

A pair of players on the Flight roster, Scarlett Kimbrell and Lauren Klem, hail from Franklin.

The Flight won their three pool games by an average of 39 points, then defeated Team Elite (Georgia) and Dayton Metro (Ohio) to reach the semifinals. After a 41-39 win over the Florida Lighting, the Flight finally suffered their first defeat in the title game, a 54-35 loss to Below the Rim, a powerhouse from Oklahoma.

Overall, the Flight won eight tournaments during the season, including the Indiana state tourney and the USAB national tournament in Gatlinburg, Tennessee.
