Short drive south offers old-fashioned classics

A new outdoor film series in Columbus will present three classic movies this summer.

The Columbus Young Professionals group presents three outdoor movie events for its inaugural Moonlight Movies film series. The classic ’90s film lineup includes sunset screenings July 22 of “Independence Day” at City Hall, Aug. 12 of “Hook” at the Library Plaza and Sept. 9 of “Jurassic Park” at Mill Race Park.

The series is free and open to the public. Doors open at 8 p.m., and the screenings will start at dusk between 9 and 9:30 p.m.

All three screenings will take place near architecturally significant spaces in the Columbus Arts and Entertainment District, helping to encourage millennials to explore the Exhibit Columbus Exhibition installations.

Accompanied by pre-film entertainment, food vendors, a cash bar, door prices, and CYP new member offers, Moonlight Movies marks CYP’s first collaborative program with the Columbus Area Arts Council, Exhibit Columbus and the Heritage Fund.

The series will promote the concept of a welcoming community by providing attendees a way to build relationships while engaging with familiar content in downtown spaces.

Attendees are encouraged to bring lawn chairs and blankets. Food and drink will be available for purchase. A cash bar is provided by The Garage Pub & Grill.
