Harold Moore Crawford

Harold Moore Crawford, 85, of Indianapolis, passed away Tuesday, July 4, 2017.

He was born July 7, 1931 in Indianapolis to the late James and Jane Stevenson Crawford, who immigrated from Northern Ireland.

Harold is survived by his sons, James (Sally) of Portland, Oregon, John (Gail) of Indianapolis and William Crawford of Atlanta, Georgia; and grandchildren, Curtis, Sarah, Amanda, Emily, Abby, Mackenzie and Ryan.

He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 58 years, Lucia B. Crawford.

He graduated from the University of California, Los Angeles then earned his Wings of Gold as a Naval Aviator.

After leaving active duty, Mr. Crawford taught at Howe High School from 1957 to 1966 and received his master’s degree in education administration from Butler University in 1961.

He was vice principal of Northwest High School from 1966 to 1971 and retired from Greenwood High School where he was principal from 1971 to 1991. He retired from the Navy Reserves as a commander in 1979.

Harold was a volunteer at Community Hospital East and was a long-time member of Irvington Presbyterian Church, where he was involved in many activities as well as serving as deacon, elder, trustee, treasurer, director of religious education, and member of the endowment board. He was also a member of the Greenwood Rotary and the Greenwood library board.

Visitation will be 10 a.m. until the time of service at noon on Friday at Irvington Presbyterian Church, 55 Johnson Ave., Indianapolis.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Irvington Presbyterian Church Endowment Fund.

Funeral arrangements are entrusted to Shirley Brothers Washington Memorial Chapel.
