To the editor:

Adrianna Pitrelli’s great article in the June 26 Daily Journal (“Walk this way: carefully”) did a great job of describing the need and the danger that pedestrians face every day crossing U.S. 31 and State Road 135, both busy multi-lane roadways.

The only disappointment was the response — or should I say lack of response — from the city of Greenwood and the Indiana Department of Transportation.

Greenwood says it’s the state’s call and the state says they’re not aware of the need.

The city needs to be vocal in voicing the need to INDOT.

INDOT needs to come down and see the people making the dash across the roads (I see it several times a week).

I hope it will not take a fatality to wake up these slumbering bureaucrats.

If they can see a need for a crosswalk at Golfview Drive and cannot see the need to cross State Road 135, they simply aren’t looking.

Come on Greenwood — get off the dime.

Mayor Mark Myers: wake up and tell the state that crosswalks are needed.

Don’t wait until citizens are struck by cars while trying to make the death-defying dash.
