Greenwood resident Abbey Gleixner, a Roncalli graduate who will be entering her senior year at Butler, defeated veteran Nina Whalen in the final round Thursday to claim the annual Women’s Golf Association of Metropolitan Indianapolis city tournament.
Gleixner, whose sister Anna had won city titles in 2012 and 2013, topped Whalen 5 and 3 in the final match to win the championship and avenge a loss in the 2014 semifinals.
After earning the top seed with a 70 during Monday’s qualifying round of the tournament, Gleixner topped Lisa Higgins in Thursday morning’s semifinal, 6 and 5.
