Thief enters Franklin restaurant through roof

A thief cut a hole in the roof of a Franklin restaurant and stole multiple items from inside.

Just after 7 a.m. Thursday, the manager of Jimmy John’s, 980 N. U.S. 31, called police to report someone had broken into the building overnight.

A large square hole had been cut into the ceiling, and roofing materials were on the floor inside. Police found footprints inside the store, and a meat cutter, security camera equipment and a ladder were missing, according to the Franklin Police Department report.

The door leading to the ladder to the roof was not locked, and the manager told police it is usually locked, the report said. The manager also told police a company checking the building’s air conditioner the day before had found a cut in the roof, the report said.

Police are investigating.
