Franklin schools announce new hires

New principals have been hired to lead two Franklin schools.

Steve Ahaus was hired as principal of Franklin Community High School. Ahaus began teaching at Franklin schools in 2000, became the assistant principal of Franklin Community Middle School in 2012 and became principal in 2015. Ahaus will oversee more than 1,500 students and nearly 100 teachers.

Because of Ahaus’ new position, Franklin Community Middle School was in need of a principal to oversee about 800 students and 50 teachers. Rita Holman will fill that position. Holman first joined Franklin schools in 2000 and in 2015 became the assistant principal of the middle school.

Ahaus and Holman will begin in their new positions July 1.

Jeff Sewell was named the director of operations. Previously, Sewell served as the deputy assistant commissioner for the Indiana Department of Environmental Management, where he served on the executive team and oversaw more than 100 employees.

“My kids have grown up in Franklin Community Schools, and I’ve always been impressed with our teachers’ and administrators’ passion and commitment to student-centered learning,” Sewell said in a statement.
