Lisa Marie Smith

NEW ALBANY

Lisa Marie Smith, 54, a resident of New Albany, passed away on Sunday, June 18, 2017.

Lisa was the seventh child — the baby of the family, born to James R. and Shirley A. Cathcart (both deceased). She grew up in Greenwood and graduated from Greenwood Community High School.

Lisa was an incredible person, loving, funny and kind. She had a beautiful smile and an infectious laugh. She was a woman of strength and one we looked up to.

Despite all the obstacles she encountered in life, she continued to press on. The love for her family and her love for Jesus encouraged her to keep trying.

When she went blind, she was determined to have a normal life and went to the NFB Center for the Blind in Ruston, Louisiana. Her fortitude impressed everyone who knew her. She was a blessing.

Lisa worked in various jobs, but she was especially good at sales. She taught Braille, started a National Federation of the Blind chapter in New Albany, and was an encourager to other blind people and their families. Lisa loved garage sales and would not let one pass her by if at all possible.

Lisa is survived by her loving husband of 26 years, Alan Smith; her daughter, Sarah Neice, her son, Joshua Neice; and granddaughters, Lily and Kelsey; her siblings, Debbie (Glenn) Craig, Mike (Dana), Don (Sandi) and Deanna.

She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, David and John.

Funeral services for Lisa will be held at noon today at Scott Funeral Home, 2515 Veterans Parkway, Jeffersonville, with burial to follow at Indiana Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Madison. Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. to noon on Wednesday at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers please make donations to NFB of Indiana. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
