LEXINGTON, S.C. — Police in South Carolina say they have arrested a man who falsely presented himself as a U.S. Marshal.

Columbia Police said in a statement that 43-year-old Buddy Mount was taken into custody Tuesday afternoon at a Lexington home.

Authorities say Mount stole a BB gun, holster and a knife from Academy Sports in Columbia.

Investigators say Mount then went to two GameStop stores in Lexington and Columbia, identifying himself as a U.S. Marshal to employees and saying he needed to inspect gaming consoles.

Columbia Police charged Mount with impersonating a law enforcement officer and shoplifting. It wasn’t known if he had an attorney.
