New Center Grove principal named

A new principal has been named to lead Center Grove High School.

Jeff Henderson, who most recently was principal at Bloomington North High School, will lead the county’s largest high school with 2,500 students and 154 teachers.

Henderson will replace Doug Bird, who is leaving at the end of the month after four years as principal. Bird was hired as the director of summer schools and camps at Culver Academies in Culver, a boarding high school and summer camp.

Henderson has nearly 30 years of experience in education, including 15 years as a high school principal. He previously was a teacher in Columbus and an administrator in Crown Point and Crawfordsville. He was named principal of the year for District 9 by the Indiana Association of School Principals this year, according to a news release from Center Grove schools. Henderson and his family will be moving to the area, the release said.

Center Grove school officials got feedback from administrators, staff, parents, students and residents during the hiring process, the release said.

“We are excited to bring Jeff Henderson to Center Grove,” superintendent Rich Arkanoff said in a news release. “He has a wealth of experience collaboratively leading a high achieving high school. His ability to immerse himself in the community and his student-centered focus stood out throughout all phases of the hiring process.”
