WASHINGTON — A body has been recovered from the Potomac River, off Washington’s Roosevelt Island.

The Washington Post reports (http://wapo.st/2rvW1Of ) D.C. Fire and EMS spokesman Vito Maggiolo says firefighters found the body shortly before 7 a.m. Officials say someone spotted the body and called police at about 6:35 a.m.

Maggiolo says the body was found in a channel between the island and Virginia shoreline, but did not release further details.

The Metropolitan Police Department is handling the investigation.
