Officials warn of scam phone calls

Officials at Franklin’s city court are warning of a scam that is coercing residents for money or threatening them with arrest during a phone call that appears to be from the court.

Employees of the city court have reported that people have complained that someone purporting to be from the city court’s office, with a number that shows up as being the city court, is calling and soliciting money and threatening warrants for unpaid traffic tickets, according to Amy McLaughlin, court clerk.

The calls appear as though they are coming from the clerk’s office, she said.

Representatives of the city would not call and request payment over the phone, McLaughlin said.

If you have questions about a call you received, call 317-736-3619. Suspected fraud attempts can also be reported to the Franklin Police Department.
