Emergency vehicle collides with car

A sheriff’s deputy suffered minor injuries after a woman hit his police vehicle while he was responding to a call.

Amanda Soto, 36, Plainfield, was driving east on County Road 144 in Franklin at 10:50 a.m. Saturday and began to turn left onto County Road 125W, according to a report from the Johnson County Sheriff’s Office.

A police vehicle with the lights and sirens on, driven by Michael Purtlebaugh, 39, Franklin, was traveling east on County Road 144 and attempted to go around Soto’s vehicle after he believed she was stopping for the emergency vehicle, the report said.

Soto began turning while Purtlebaugh was turning, striking his vehicle and sending it into a field, according to the report.

Soto told police that she was unfamiliar with the area and was using her digital navigation system for directions to Franklin Community High School.

Purtlebaugh reported neck pain.
