Sheila Kay Buhneing

INDIANAPOLIS

Sheila Kay Buhneing, 78, of Indianapolis, passed away Sunday, June 4, 2017.

She was born on June 3, 1939, to Lovell “John” and Mary (Keck) Carpenter, both preceding her in death.

Sheila attended Odon High School.

She volunteered for St. Francis Hospice for nine years as a patient respite provider and fundraiser.

Sheila retired from St. Francis Hospital as a patient care sitter.

She was an avid bowler and loved sports, especially basketball, NASCAR and Notre Dame football.

Sheila was a proud Alan Jackson fan club member, and loved country music. Her hobbies included spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who were her pride and joy.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Charles Arthur Buhneing; and her son-in-law, Chad Michael Gatchell.

Sheila is survived by her son, Ralph Emerson Alden II, daughters, Diana Kaye Gatchell, Stephanie Alden (T.J.) Smithey and Christina Karol (Anthony) Hanley; brother, Terry Edwin Carpenter, sister, Johnny Karol Carpenter; grandchildren, Ashley Ann Alden, Ellen Katherine Smithey, William Alden Smithey, Tyler Nikolaus Hanley, Kara Marie Boyles, Krystin Suzanne Atterson and Glen Ethan Hanley; eight great-grandchildren; and nephew, Terry Keck Carpenter.

A celebration of life will be at 6 p.m. Thursday with visitation from 4 p.m. until the service time at Forest Lawn Funeral Home, 1977 S. State Road 135, Greenwood.
