Kathleen “Kay” Petrere

INDIANAPOLIS

Kathleen “Kay” Petrere, 92, passed away on May 28, 2017, in Beech Grove. She was a resident of Indianapolis.

Kathleen was born Nov. 18, 1924, in Arkansas City, Kansas, to Radford E. McCarty and Faye Gillock McCarty.

Kathleen and her sister, Paulene, were raised in Arkansas City, Kansas, then moved to Alamosa, Colorado, where she graduated from Alamosa High School in 1942.

After high school, her family moved to Dearborn, Michigan, where she met her future husband, William V. Petrere. They were married in 1953.

They had two children, Edward and Kathy.

Kathleen and her husband owned and operated City Camera Shop until 1975 when they moved to Salem and ran Salem Camera Shop until 1993.

Kay was a member of the First Christian Church and several organizations including DAR and PEO.

In 2001, Kathleen moved to Greenwood to be near her daughter.

When not working, Kathleen was an avid reader, enjoyed doing needlepoint and loved looking at and discussing art.

In her retirement, she volunteered at St. Francis Hospital for a number of years and was also a reading tutor for several students at Greenwood elementary schools.

She is survived by her sister, Paulene McLaughlin of Trenton, Michigan; son, Edward Petrere (Evelyn) of Georgetown; and daughter, Kathy Petrere of Indianapolis.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Bill.

Her memorial service will be held on June 17 at St. Paul Hermitage chapel, 501 N. 17th Ave., Beech Grove. Visitation will be 5 to 7 p.m. with the service at 7 p.m.
