Barbara Jean (Cowan) Goodman

FRANKLIN

Barbara Jean (Cowan) Goodman, 74, of Franklin, passed away peacefully Sunday, June 4, 2017.

She was a graduate of Franklin High School and Franklin College with a teaching degree. For years she stayed at home with her two boys. After graduating from Franklin College, she substitute taught before working for American States Insurance for many years in the claims department in Indianapolis.

She, at times, traveled with teams to help in areas of natural disaster.

She also worked for First Indiana Bank before retiring. She had a big heart to help cats, volunteered for years at Johnson Memorial Hospital’s Gift Shop as well as at her church, Grace United Methodist, both located in Franklin.

Barbara was a member of Grace United Methodist Church in Franklin. She was a member of the Franklin American Legion Ladies Auxiliary as well as the Franklin Chapter, Order of Eastern Star No. 439.

Barbara is preceded in death by her mother, Catherine Cowan (1999) and Father, Raymond Cowan (2006).

She is survived by two sons, Doug of New Madison, Ohio and David (Michelle) of Franklin; as well as her sister, Susan Cowan (Joseph) Loomis of Carmel. Her grandchildren are Christy Goodman of Dayton, Ohio, Devin Goodman of Fishers, IN, and Megan Davin of Bloomington.

Barbara’s final request to all of her loving family and friends is to please, in lieu of flowers, donate to The Humane Society of Johnson County, 3827 N. Graham Road, Franklin, IN 46131 to further her deep care for animals in need.

The family would like to express great appreciation to the wonderful help and care given by both critical care units at Johnson Memorial Hospital (as well as her special friends there) as well as St. Francis Hospital of Indianapolis. A big thanks to Gary Day for his help during our time of need and in the past.

The Rev. Andy Kinsey and Rev. Jenothy Rather will conduct a memorial service at 3 p.m. Thursday at Grace United Methodist Church, 1300 East Adams Drive in Franklin. Friends may call from noon until the service time on Thursday at the church.

Flinn and Maguire Funeral Home in Franklin is assisting the family with arrangements.
