Girls tennis

Weeks claims Mental Attitude Award

Center Grove senior Maddie Weeks was named the winner of the IHSAA’s Mental Attitude Award for girls tennis during Saturday’s state finals.

Weeks, the Trojans’ No. 3 singles player, finished the year with a 21-3 record. She helped Center Grove reach the state quarterfinals for a second consecutive season.

In the individual state singles and doubles tournaments, the Greenwood duo of Alyssa Roscoe and Molly Jacobs was defeated in the regional doubles semifinal by Noelle Enkema and Sarah Klapper of Park Tudor. Jacobs and Roscoe lost just twice on the year.

Roncalli’s Emma Hess lost to Morgan Fitzpatrick of Mooresville in a regional singles semifinal.

Rebels to play for regional crown

Roncalli’s Class 4A regional championship game against Cathedral was postponed Saturday night. It will be played this evening at Decatur Central.

Road racing

Brumfield, Murdock win Franklin race

A pair of Franklin College stars were winners at last Monday’s Memorial Day Mile race in downtown Franklin. Clayton Brumfield, who just finished his freshman year running for the Grizzlies, won the men’s race in 4 minutes, 28 seconds. Former Indian Creek and Franklin College star Anna Murdock was the women’s winner in 5:16.
