Edinburgh grad gets Girl Scout award

Edinburgh Community High School graduate Emily Acker has earned the Girl Scout Gold Award, the highest award in Girl Scouting.

Acker will receive her award during Girl Scouts of Central Indiana’s Girls of Distinction ceremony June 17 at the Marriott in Indianapolis.

Acker, a lifetime Girl Scout and 4-H member, built a concession stand outside of the livestock pavilion at the Johnson County Fairgrounds. Acker collaborated with the Johnson County Fair board and the Purdue Extension office on her Girl Scout Gold Award project.

The concession stand houses a refrigerator, microwave, freezer, and a popcorn machine. Different 4-H clubs can use the concession stand throughout the year to raise money for their community service projects.

Acker plans to study animal science at Purdue University. She is the daughter of Elizabeth and Steven Acker.
