David Brown Ditmars

FRANKLIN

David Brown Ditmars, 91, passed away Tuesday, May 30, 2017 at Morning Pointe of Franklin. He was a resident of Franklin.

He was born on July 22, 1925, in Franklin, to Cort C. and Mary (Brown) Ditmars.

He married Katherine Huffman on Nov. 23, 1947. She lovingly survives.

Other survivors include his daughter, Nancy Ditmars McAfee (Mark), son, John Brent Ditmars (Sandy); grandchildren, Christopher McAfee (Jessica), Corey McAfee (Sarah), Brent Ditmars (Allison) and Jami Howland (Eric); great-grandchildren, William David, Hadley Kay, Hannah Renae and Miles David.

He was preceded in passing by his parents; daughter, Linda Ditmars; and sister Eleanor Albright.

David was a graduate of Franklin High School and Franklin College where he was a member of the Phi Delta Theta fraternity. He later received a master’s degree from Indiana University.

He was a lifelong farmer in the Hopewell Community. He taught at the Franklin Junior High/Middle School for 28 years.

David served as a 2nd Lieutenant in the U.S. Army Air Corps from 1943 to 1946

He was a lifetime member of Hopewell Presbyterian Church where he served as elder, deacon and trustee. He sang in the church choir for over 60 years.

He was a member of the Franklin American Legion Post 205 and Hillview Country Club.

David served as the director and director emeritus of Mutual Savings Bank.

He also served on the Johnson County Sheriff’s Merit Board, Johnson County Community Corrections Board, Johnson County Red Cross Advisory Board, and the Franklin Township Advisory Board.

The family would like to thank the staff at Morning Pointe of Franklin and Brookdale Hospice.

The Rev. David Lee will conduct a memorial service at 4 p.m. Friday at Hopewell Presbyterian Church in Franklin. Friends may call from 1 p.m. until the service time.
