Parks, facilities earn accolades

Franklin and Greenwood are among six cities in Indiana being recognized this year for making play spaces accessible and fun for kids.

National non-profit organization KaBOOM! has honored the cities with a Playful City USA designation. KaBOOM! recognizes cities that attract and retain residents with their parks and recreational facilities and amenities.

Greenwood included in its application its newly updated community center, the Freedom Springs Aquatic Center, art on the trail system, new play pockets throughout Craig Park, the rent-a-bike program and the summer concert series, according to a news release from the city.

Franklin’s play spaces are being recognized by the organization for the eighth year.
