Mary “Dolly” Patterson

Mary “Dolly” Patterson, 83, of Greenwood, passed away peacefully at home Sunday, May 28, 2017.

Mrs. Patterson was born Jan. 10, 1934, in Indianapolis, to the late Edward and Mary Bernadette (Rathz) Rosebrock.

Survivors include her children, Agnes (Tom) Hawley, Bill (Karen), John (Kaye), Mike (Debbie), Patty (Mike) Kaschak, Dan, Mary Jo (Dave) McGowan, Tim, Chris (Kelli) and Susie (Joe) Shanks; daughter-in-law, Jill; 28 grandchildren; and 38 great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Chief William J. Patterson; sons, Matt and Bob; one grandchild, and one great grandchild.

A devout Catholic, she had been a member of Sacred Heart, St. Jude, and a 34-year member of St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church. She was a bus driver at St. Jude, worked for a period of time at L.S. Ayres, and also was a gardener at the St. Francis Cancer Garden.

Dolly loved gardening, bingo, quilting, and was an accomplished seamstress. She loved her birds, enjoyed singing in the church choir. She was also a loyal Indiana Pacers fan.

Above all, she was a loving and devoted wife and homemaker, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. Her memory will be cherished by a loving family and many friends.

Visitation will be held from 3 to 8 p.m. today at Daniel F. O’Riley Funeral Home, 6107 S. East St., Indianapolis. Recitation of the rosary will be at 2:30 p.m. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Franklin.
